I've Tested 10 Ice Makers. The One I Use in My Own Kitchen Has Never Been Cheaper

Save $70: This Ecozy is my favorite nugget ice maker for chilled drinks all summer. I’ve been using the sleek and smartly designed machine for two full summers, going through at least one full chamber of ice per day — usually more — without any issues or signs of slowing. If you know anything about ice makers, they’re prone to breakage, which is why this milestone, considering the heavy use, is worth remarking upon.

It normally costs $340, but is sitting pretty at $270 on Amazon right now. This special price comes courtesy of Prime Day, and marks the cheapest the impressive ice maker has been since it launched.

I’ve tested more than 10 ice makers, from speedy bullet ice machines to premium whiskey models that churn out crystal-clear cubes for sipping whiskey and rum. The one I’ve kept on my countertop is the Ecozy smart nugget ice maker. I love the design, its whisper-quiet performance, and most of all that it hasn’t given me any issues despite using it constantly for more than two years.

The Ecozy makes ice fast, with the first plunks of nugget ice falling into the easy-open chamber in about six minutes. It’s big enough to keep ice coming for a party but not so large that it dominates the counter. I liked the machine so much that I opted for a smaller fridge without a built-in ice maker and use this countertop model instead.

The Ecozy had my favorite design among ice makers, largely due to its top-down door and removable water reservoir.

The Ecozy has plenty of smart features, which you can access in its mobile app, but I’ll admit I don’t use them much. A built-in meter monitors the cleanliness of my water by measuring total dissolved solids. That lets me know when it’s time to run a cleaning cycle to remove buildup and prevent mold or mustiness.

The Ecozy is my personal favorite ice maker, although some with more counter space and a need for more ice prefer the larger GE Profile Opal 2.0 Nugget Ice Maker. It has a larger water tank and ice chamber but costs nearly $600, though it’s also on sale for $399 for Prime Day.
